The Minister of Foreign Affairs has announced that 8,463 chip-embedded passports have been successfully delivered to applicants across the country.

This achievement follows the rollout of the chip-embedded passports and courier delivery service on April 28, 2025.

According to the sector minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, this rollout marks a significant milestone in the modernization of Ghana’s passport system.

The new passports, embedded with advanced biometric chips, enhance security features and align Ghana’s travel documentation with international standards.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who spearheaded the launch of the chip-embedded passports, highlighted that recipients received their new documents via courier at no extra cost, underscoring the government’s commitment to efficiency and citizen-focused service delivery.

This initiative reduces processing bottlenecks and minimizes the need for physical visits to passport offices, making access to travel documents more seamless for all Ghanaians.

The steady uptake of the new chip-embedded passports reflects public confidence in the reforms and the increasing demand for secure, globally compliant identification systems.
