…Amid Vice President’s ‘Sick Leave’
DAYBREAK can reliably report that appointments and promotions within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) remain in limbo due to the continued absence of the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
As Chairperson of the Armed Forces Council, the Vice President’s presence is crucial for the approval and implementation of key decisions, including officer promotions and appointments.
Her current absence from the country has stalled these processes, despite the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, convening the number one selection board in her absence.
Sources say that due to health-related reasons, Professor Opoku-Agyemang has embarked on a three-week medical leave beginning Monday, April 7.
Before her departure, she sought treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre before travelling abroad for further care.
Notably, she may become the first Vice President in Ghana’s history to officially delegate her responsibilities due to medical reasons—a development that could have constitutional and administrative implications.
