ECOWAS Hails Baba Kamara for Frontline Anti-Terrorism Role

The ECOWAS Commission has reaffirmed its resolve to tackle terrorism and restore regional cohesion, following key decisions taken at the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja.

In a statement issued after the summit, the Commission said the Authority had acknowledged the work of ECOWAS Special Envoy on Terrorism, Ambassador Baba Kamara, for his role in assessing threats in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Togo.

The regional bloc commended his exemplary diplomatic efforts and encouraged him to continue engaging stakeholders to help address the scourge of terrorism.

The Authority further directed the President of the ECOWAS Commission to deepen constructive dialogue with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger as part of efforts to rebuild trust and unity among Member States.

In a decisive humanitarian move, the Commission was tasked with providing immediate financial assistance to countries most affected by terrorist violence.

This support is intended not only for the care of victims but also to manage the worsening humanitarian crisis caused by waves of refugees and internally displaced persons across the subregion.

These efforts reflect ECOWAS’ growing determination to combat violent extremism while cushioning the impact on vulnerable populations.
