…..Prior To Retirement

There is widespread celebration within the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) following reports that the Comptroller-General, Kwame Asuah Takyi, has requested to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement.

Sources at the Ministry of Interior confirm that Mr. Takyi, who turned 60 on July 18, 2022, had his service extended by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo until July 18, 2025.

However, fresh reports indicate that he has written to President John Dramani Mahama and copied the Minister of Interior, signaling his intention to take his accumulated leave and exit the service.

His impending departure has sparked jubilation among the Immigration Officers across the country.

Many officers believe his tenure was marked by strict measures and the cancellation of key benefits such as rent, medical and other allowances.

Additionally, his approach to enforcing discipline, including issuing queries for even minor infractions, reportedly created tension within the ranks.

“Officers are relieved because working conditions became tough under his leadership. People lost critical allowances, and there was always fear of being queried for the smallest mistakes,” a senior officer, speaking anonymously, said.

Celebrations have erupted in various immigration offices, with officers expressing optimism that the next leader will restore the benefits that were cut and create a more favorable working environment.
